ANT-MAN: Why the Quantum Realm Was So Bizarre and Creepy Looking

This post contains spoilers for ANT-MAN.

The Quantum Realm (also know in the comic book universe as the Microverse) plays an important role in ANT-MAN. Not only is it the reason the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, is now longer around in the modern day but it's the reason Hank Pym is so protective of his daughter Hope.

Toward the end of the film, Scott Lang has to go into the Quantum Realm in order to save the day and at one point the visuals of his journey are psychedelic, bizarre and creepy. There is a good reason for this but let's hear what Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had to say about the Quantum Realm to the L.A. Times.

"Without spoiling it, what Scott experiences at the end of the movie is very strange. [The quantum realm] is a strange place, the normal rules of time and space don’t apply."

Notice something about that quote? Feige says the word 'strange' twice and that's your tease for DOCTOR STRANGE. In fact, Feige teased the connection between the Quantum Realm and DOCTOR STRANGE to Entertainment Weekly.

"There may well be a link between the Quantum Realm and alternate realities and parallel universes and Doctor Strange. The definite link is that psychedelic era of the Marvel comics world — the late ’60s, early ’70s stuff.”

So there you go... at the end of ANT-MAN there was a little visual tease and set-up for DOCTOR STRANGE.
