While Researching Her Role Evangeline Lilly Was Not a Fan of Modern Day WASP in Newer Marvel Comic Books
Actor Evangeline Lilly is playing Hope van Dyne in ANT-MAN. It is known she could suit up as a new, modern day version of the Wasp at the end of the film but we also know the original Wasp — Janet van Dyne, Hope's mother — is no longer around in the current timeline when ANT-MAN takes place. While researching her role, Lilly candidly disclosed (to Collider) she was given newer comic book issues with the Wasp in it and she was not a fan. In fact, she said she hates the modern day comic book version of the Wasp and wants to read the older Silver Age version of the Wasp, from the 1960s.
"I am still trying to figure out how to get my hands on original ‘Ant-Man’ comics, where you get them. I’ve been given a couple recent ‘Ant-Man’ comics. No offense Marvel, but they are total crap. I really want to read the original ones, because I got through two and I was like, dude, you can’t force-feed me another one of these magazines. It was terrible. But Janet’s not in them, and neither is Hank and neither is Scott. It’s just a completely different fabrication. So if anybody has any old ‘Ant-Man’ comics they want to lend me."
This just sounds weird, doesn't it? In the past, it's been reported how Marvel gives its actors tons of comics to research their role.
So did Marvel not give Lilly any of the older Ant-Man comics? Couldn't she just go to Comixology or Amazon and buy them herself? Is she just trying to be funny with her quote?
Whatever the case, this is such a strange thing for any Marvel actor say.
