Studio Head Confirms Director Adam McKay is in the Running For a Future Marvel Studios Movie

Back in October 2014, director Adam McKay (Anchorman) said he was in talks with Marvel Studios for a future film. This came after it was revealed he and actor Paul Rudd locked themselves into a room for several weeks and re-wrote the script for ANT-MAN before director Peyton Reed was hired.

Over six months later, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed to Collider that McKay is in the running for a future Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

"Adam McKay is in the running for everything. Adam McKay is a great, great writer and director. He did an amazing pass on the Ant-Man draft with Paul Rudd for us, and I didn’t know him before then. And we got to know him through that and liked him very much, and have met with him a number of times trying to find something else, so we’ve talked about a lot of characters with him."

Which one remains a mystery, but if you look at the layout of Phase 3 then it's easy to see what movies still need a director. So far the Russo Brothers are confirmed to be directing CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART I & II. Scott Derrickson is directing DOCTOR STRANGE. James Gunn is confirmed to be directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2. And Drew Goddard is rumored to be directing the next SPIDER-MAN movie. Beyond this there are still job openings for McKay including: THOR: RAGNAROK, BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN MARVEL and INHUMANS.

Some movie pundits think Marvel is looking to increase their diversity quota with directors who can take on CAPTAIN MARVEL and BLACK PANTHER, but this is hearsay more than anything else right now. All gender and race aside, Marvel will hire whoever they feel is the perfect fit to take on these two films, or any of their other movies.

Stay tuned because if McKay is in the running for THOR: RAGNAROK then that announcement will come sooner than any of the other director chair openings. Especially if it's for INHUMANS which wouldn't go into production until sometime in 2018.
