Sony Has Green Lit Another GHOSTBUSTERS Movie and Are Looking at the Russo Brothers to Direct

If you're an old school Ghostbusters fan like me, then the news of the all-female led Ghostbusters reboot have probably fallen on deaf ears. By the way, this has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with its unspectacular cast (my opinion, of course). But get this... Sony Pictures is giving fans, like me, exactly what they have wanted all along.

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Sony has created a new production company within its doors called Ghostcorps. This new company branch will be headed up by Ghostbusters creator Dan Aykroyd and director Ivan Reitman.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo are being targeted to produce and direct. And Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce is being looked at to write the script.

Actor Channing Tatum and his business partners are also attached to produce and the actor will reportedly star in the new Ghostbusters film. Deadline also reports that Reitman himself has confirmed all of this to the Hollywood trade website.

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman said. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

With the all-female cast Ghostbusters reboot set to begin filming this summer, and the Russo brothers gearing up to film Captain America: Civil War this spring in Atlanta, it seems like there's at least 12-18 months of development and scripting until this Ghostbusters movie will be ready to start filming hopefully in summer 2016.

Stay tuned because this breaking news is sure to get a lot more coverage now that Pandora's Box has been opened and Sony is officially expanding the Ghostbusters franchise.
