THE FANTASTIC FOUR: Fox Pushes Back Release Date 2 Months For Higher Box Office Performance Potential

Lost in the celebration of 20th Century Fox's announcement that Deadpool has been greenlit and will release in 2016 was another announcement about The Fantastic Four. Fox has pushed back the release of The Fantastic Four two months from June 19, 2015 to August 7, 2015 (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The studio might have been a bit nervous about releasing The Fantastic Four in the middle of the summer movie release schedule especially since the reboot was previously scheduled to release in between Marvel Studios' two movies, Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1) and Ant-Man (July 17). Having a movie release become lost between two of Marvel Studios' films would scare most studios nowadays.

Who can blame Fox for moving The Fantastic Four to the back-end of the summer movie season after seeing Marvel's huge success with Guardians of the Galaxy in its August release slot? It's a really smart decision.

Whether or not The Fantastic Four will produce the same numbers as Guardians remains to be seen, but the fact that Fox recognized The Fantastic Four will have the best chance to succeed in what is usually the slower part of the summer movie season is a sigh of relief. After two subpar Fantastic Four releases under its belt, Fox needs to take advantage of every opportunity it can to bring Marvel's first family back to movie relevance and hit a homerun in the box office.
