Bryan Singer Will Officially Direct X-MEN: APOCALYPSE; Younger CYCLOPS, JEAN GREY and STORM to Appear

This announcement was a long time coming and thankfully it's official. Deadline has confirmed X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer will return to the director's chair to helm X-Men: Apocalypse.

Set a decade after the events of Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse will be placed in the mid-80s and due to the time travel of the previous X-Men film, something evil has emerged from those timeline changing events. Deadline writes:

"Apocalypse takes place a decade after Days of Future Past and is a seamless next step in the story. The altering of time has unleashed a new and uniquely powerful enemy. Charles (James McAvoy), Erik/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Hank/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) are joined by young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet: an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history."

While the younger Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm will get the 'fan cast' treatment across every other website and blog online until the actors are hired, it is nice to hear that three of the most popular X-Men members will make their return to the big screen. It is also unknown whether or not actor Channing Tatum will appear as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The next X-Men story is being developed by Singer, writer/producer Simon Kinberg and screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. X-Men: Apocalypse will release in theaters on May 27, 2016.
