CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER to Have Howard Stark Cameo; Flashback Scene with Arnim Zola?

As if Captain America: The Winter Soldier didn't already have a huge ensemble cast, another casting announcement has been made. Sort of.

Actor Dominic Cooper, who played a young Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger, has told Total Film (via CBM) that he will be back in the Captain America sequel.

"We're shooting something for it," Cooper said. "I've worn the costume again. But whether they just had me put it on as a joke... I don't know! It was good fun getting back into it and he's got some very cool shades now. But who knows..."

Who knows? We can tell you this, it sounds like this has happened and will be in the sequel unless it gets cut during the editing process.

Cooper may not have a ton of movies to commit to as the younger version of the elder Stark, and he sounded happy this was the case in an old interview with Cinema Blend when he said, "I think I may escape that" [referring to a multi-picture commitment]. But he was obviously signed on by Marvel to play a young Howard for more than just in Captain America: The First Avenger.

The actor is the latest addition to a huge cast that already has Cap, Falcon, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Agent 13 (a.k.a. Sharon Carter), Winter Soldier and many more. Cooper's younger Stark also tells fans that he will be in a flashback of some kind because Howard is not alive in today's modern world of Marvel Studios' movie universe, when Cap 2 takes place.

So what does this really mean? It means Howard's scene could be with Arnim Zola, with Toby Jones reprising his role from the first movie. Facing the facts, Zola cannot still be alive in the 70 years that have passed since he was first seen in the original Cap film. If he was in his 30s or 40s in the first movie, that would make him 100-plus in age. That is unless he has rebuilt himself in a similar suit as in the comic universe, where he is more computer robot than human. (See that image below.)
