In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Robert Redford Could be Another Case of Actor Misdirection

Robert Redford must have missed memo in his Marvel Studios contract that said no talking about his role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Well, he said something he wasn't supposed to say. (Maybe.)

Redford is playing high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Alexander Pierce in the sequel who, in the comics, is not a villain at all. So why did Redford say he is playing a villain in the new movie?

That's an easy answer. To throw off the media and websites from knowing what will really happen.

Even though you should've seen Iron Man 3 by now here comes SPOILERS for it. So stop reading and go see it now!

Let's take a look back at when Guy Pearce was cast as Aldrich Killian for Iron Man 3. It was reported that he was a geneticist—just like Killian in the comic universe—and he was playing a very small role. It turns out Pearce lied to all of us.

Killian was a major player and the villain threat in Iron Man 3. He was even the head honcho of A.I.M. Bottom line is that Killian was much more than what Pearce told the world.

Bravo Marvel! You threw all if us off the actual path until we were seated in the theater and each of us became shocked and surprised at the actual reveal that Killian was indeed the leading villain and played a much bigger role than he said he would have.

Same can be said now about Redford dropping this new bit of information that he is a villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This could easily be a play by Marvel to misdirect fans, once again, just as they did with Killian (and especially the Mandarin).

This is Redford we are talking about. He is not a newbie to the movie business, he's a seasoned veteran. Which means he knows better than to slip up and give out real info. Being instructed to say false info is not out of the realm of possibility since Marvel has recently lied about Pearce... so why not do it again with Redford?
