SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Opens With $50 Million on Thursday Night; More Than AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

If there was any doubt that Spider-Man is the biggest and most popular superhero on the planet, then consider the fact that its Thursday night box office numbers have bested that of the superhero ensemble movie, which included Spider-Man, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Yes, you read that correctly.

According to Deadline, the new Spidey movie raked in $50 million on its opening Thursday night screenings here in the states. For reference, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR opened its own Thursday night with $39M, although Spidey's showtimes started at 3pm Eastern and Infinity War's began at 6pm.

Regardless of the earlier showtime start for Spidey, we are still in a pandemic and No Way Home is exclusively in theaters right now and not streaming online (legally) anywhere. So yeah... a $50 million start is insanely impressive.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR opened with a $257M domestic weekend so it will be fun to see if SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME can pass that mark. But it will be tough since many are still not yet ready to head to their local theater because of the virus.

Stay tuned for Sunday's estimated weekend total.
