Disney and Marvel Studios are thrilled right now with the returns on the opening weekend for BLACK WIDOW as it posted the best worldwide opening weekend with over $215 million since the pandemic took hold. And this is the best opening since December 2019 when STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER released.
According to Deadline, BLACK WIDOW took in $80 million domestically, $78M Internationally, and, for the first time ever for any studio, Disney revealed its Disney+ Premier Access numbers for a streaming release as it took in $60M from households. Add that all up and it is the biggest movie release in a very, very long time.
The theatrical release schedule is coming back in a big away after over a year of delays for studios' bigger blockbuster movies. Especially for Marvel Studios, as they have three more movie releases before the end of this year with SHANG-CHI in August, ETERNALS in November, and SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (with Sony Pictures) in December.
