THE MANDALORIAN series creator Jon Favreau wrapped filming the eagerly anticipated Season 2 of the Star Wars series prior to the worldwide pandemic putting all Hollywood productions on pause. So during the lockdown, Favreau has not only been working post-production on Season 2, but according to Variety, he has already been developing Season 3.
Variety writes:
"Sources close to the production have confirmed that creator Jon Favreau has been 'writing season 3 for a while,' and that the art department, led by Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for Season 3 'for the past few weeks.'
"'We’ve just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3,' revealed one source.
"In addition, another source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the production design department began working on season 3 on April 20, pointing to the fact the department requires 'such a huge lead time' to explain why 'the gears have started grinding really early on.'"
Season 2 of THE MANDALORIAN will see actress Rosario Dawson as fan-favorite Force-user Ahsoka Tano for the first time in live action, but in a limited role. Surely, Season 3 could expand her role in the series since someone needs to teach the Child (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) how to master his Force skills seen throughout Season 1.
THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 will debut on Disney+ in October.
