Andy Serkis Onboard to Direct VENOM 2

While it is not the best comic book movie adaptation, VENOM did make a shit load of money worldwide. Pulling in an astounding $856 million globally, Sony Pictures has itself a moneymaker with actor Tom Hardy's symbiote franchise and greenlit a sequel after its release and after a credits scene introduced Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady a.k.a. Carnage.

Sony has taken a step further in the right direction for VENOM 2 as motion capture expert and actor Andy Serkis has been brought on to helm the sequel as its director.

Serkis spoke with Gamespot and teased the movie sequel project.

"I'm right in the beginning stages, so I've got some very clear ideas about the journey, [and what] I'd like to see visually, and how we can take the characters into another direction.

"I'm excited to work with all the great actors who are involved. It's a fantastic franchise. I'm really honored to have been asked to direct it. And it feels like it's a very, again, very contemporary story. And it's I think it's going to be, hopefully, a story piece of cinema.

"Tom was very involved with the writing--with [screenwriter] Kelly Marcel--of the new story. So it's very much centered around their take."

VENOM 2 does not yet have an official release date, although it is rumored that Sony's October 2, 2020 date is save for it. Which means it should begin filming in the coming months if that release schedule is accurate.
