Let's Talk About the SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Mid-Credits Cameo and Why it Needs to Continue

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is finally out in theaters and has already amassed over $580 million worldwide. But let us discuss that mid-credits scene and cameo.

If you haven't seen it yet, please go and do that right now then come back to this post.

SPOILER ALERT!

In the mid-credits scene there are two really big reveals, but I only want to really talk about one of them.

And that is all about actor J.K. Simmons being back as J. Jonah Jameson! Although this is not the same Jameson as seen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy. This is a new, more brash, and even louder Jameson who is more akin to modern fake news' Alex Jones. Jones' Infowars has mastered the art of fake news sensationalism and Jameson seems to be that equivalent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Especially since The Daily Bugle is not a newspaper and it is a website at TheDailyBugle.net. Jameson couldn't even secure the '.com' URL for the Bugle, which is funny.

Simmons still brings much of the same flair he made famous in the role previously, but this version is going full-tilt with the whole "Spider-Man is a menace" angle as seen throughout the years in the comic book universe. Especially since he got his hands on Mysterio's doctored video — which is way too similar to what is currently happening in today's reality with Deepfakes.

The other reveal is how Jameson, with the help of Mysterio, has revealed Spidey is none other than Peter Parker. This is a whole new world for Parker as all his secret identity attempts are now null and void. Unless someone like Doctor Strange can step in with some mystic arts to fix this reveal.

It is oh-so great to see Simmons as Jameson again. Hopefully this is not a one-time thing as this should continue and I'll tell you why right now. Jameson was loosely based on Stan Lee in the comics, as a grumpier version as confirmed by Stan himself, so it would be great if Jameson takes over in the cameo role Stan has left behind. Jameson should show up in every MCU film moving forward throwing shade on whichever hero he can. Jameson was an homage to Stan and having him make a cameo in each film now feels like a great way to continue Stan's MCU cameo legacy.

Just a thought, but one that makes perfect sense to me. I hope you agree Mr. Feige.
