Next STAR WARS Trilogy Confirmed to be Coming From GAME OF THRONES Showrunners

Last week news hit that Disney had scheduled three new Star Wars movie releases for December in the years: 2022, 2024, and 2026. What wasn't known was if this would be writer/director Rian Johnson's trilogy or a trilogy from the GAME OF THRONES showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

It is a mystery no more as Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed at the MoffetNathanson Media & Communications summit that the next Star Wars trilogy will in fact be from the GAME OF THRONES showrunners.

“The Benioff and Weiss series will be the next Star Wars movies released,” Iger said, per SHH.

There is still no word on what this new trilogy will be about, or where in the Star Wars cannon timeline it may take place. And before anyone starts to complain of the showrunners' last two season of GAME OF THRONES being bad, please remember the show was absolutely excellent when they had the resource of books to draw source material from prior to the show bypassing author George R.R. Martin's books. So if their planned trilogy is rumored to be in the Old Republic Era there's a tremendous amount of source material from video games, comics, books, etc.

Finally, there have been rumors over the last few days claiming that Johnson's trilogy may have been axed, but no confirmed information has been issued as of the publishing of this post. This post will be updated accordingly if new info about Johnson's trilogy is made public by Disney or Lucasfilm.
