It has never been done before, and it was honestly somewhat of a fantasy dream. Until now.
But AVENGERS: ENDGAME did it... taking in over a billion worldwide in its opening weekend.
Endgame is the first film in history to ever record a $1+ billion opening weekend worldwide. The film
Domestically, Endgame took in an estimated $350 million, which itself was a record for a domestic opening weekend that was also previously held by Infinity War ($257M).
Overseas, an estimated $859 million was made including a historic and record breaking opening in China with $330 million.
Nobody was prepared for this big of an opening as theaters rushed to make more screens available and some theaters even stayed opened non-stop so moviegoers could see AVENGERS: ENDGAME before being spoiled on its outcome.
As I've said in my last box office report for Endgame, it might be a very, very long time until these opening weekend records are broken. Maybe STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER can do it this December, but AVENGERS: ENDGAME may have staked its claim on many of these records for decades to come.
