James Gunn is Back at the Helm For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Disney has reinstated writer and director James Gunn as Deadline has exclusively learned Gunn will return to direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3.

According to the Hollywood trade website, Gunn had a series of meetings over the past few months with Disney Studios chief Alan Horn and the Mouse House has reversed its decision to fire Gunn for nearly decades-old inappropriate tweets that Gunn has since apologized for many, many times. The website io9 has corroborated and confirmed his reinstatement with Disney reps.

Now, with Gunn back at the helm, Marvel Studios can move toward getting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 ready for production. It was supposed to be filming this spring for an alleged May 2020 release but that will have to wait as Gunn has been busy. Gunn has been deep into development, and nearing production, at rival studio Warner Bros. on the soft reboot THE SUICIDE SQUAD. The DC soft reboot releases in August 2021 and it is being reported that he will return to Marvel after THE SUICIDE SQUAD is completed.

In the end, all is back to normal with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as Disney used some logic and realized that nutjob social media villains shouldn't have any power in this world.
