Scott Derrickson Returning to Direct DOCTOR STRANGE 2

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will be much different in the post- AVENGERS: ENDGAME world as newer characters like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange will take center stage.

Speaking of Doctor Strange, there has been no word on its sequel after the origin movie took in over $677 million worldwide. The good Doctor did partake in last year's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, and it is assumed he will be back for next year's AVENGERS: ENDGAME, but fans want to see the continuation of his own story.

His fans will get their wish as The Hollywood Reporter is now stating that DOCTOR STRANGE director Scott Derrickson will in fact return to helm the sequel, which could hit theaters as soon as 2021. THR writes:

"... sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the plan is for the script to be hashed out in 2019 with an eye toward a spring 2020 production start. If all goes well, the movie would be casting its spell on audiences in May 2021."

DOCTOR STRANGE 2 will now join SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, BLACK PANTHER 2, BLACK WIDOW, THE ETERNALS, and eventually GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 in the [unofficial] movie release landscape after the events of AVENGERS: ENDGAME.
