If you thought all the talk surrounding Marvel's BLACK WIDOW movie was just white noise, you were wrong. Marvel Studios is most definitely developing the standalone movie as it hired a writer in January. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they are looking into several female directors to helm the project.
"Marvel Studios has been looking for a director to break its glass ceiling with Black Widow and has been meeting with filmmakers such as Deniz Gamze Erguven (the Turkish movie Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), among several others. That search is still ongoing, according to sources."
Also, Variety reporter Justin Kroll added two additional female director names to Marvel's target list.

It seems more evident than ever this movie will get a green light sooner than later. Previous reports claim the film may be a prequel and could also feature actor Sebastian Stan as the brainwashed assassin the Winter Soldier.
There is no release date set for BLACK WIDOW at the time this post was published.
