Sounds Like 2021 is When Marvel Fans Could See an X-MEN or FANTASTIC FOUR Movie in the MCU

Last month Disney announced their huge acquisition of Fox assets which include all the live action movie rights to all-things X-Men, mutants, and the Fantastic Four. When a purchase of this magnitude happens, it can take upwards of nearly two years to be completed.

This is why you shouldn't expect any Fantastic Four or X-Men films to appear in Marvel Studios' cinematic universe any time soon. In fact, studio head Kevin Feige says he is focused on films through 2019.

“I read about it in the press like most people did,” Feige told Vulture. “These are big deals, and certainly above my pay grade.”
“The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do… It would be years away. We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted. I think about it through 2019, through the movies we’ve already shot or are about to start filming. I’m hoping to deliver on everything we’ve promised thus far.”

As it stands right now, a Marvel Studios film usually begins development approximately two years before filming begins (and sometimes even longer). Then, filming takes place around one year out from release. In this timeline, don't expect any Fantastic Four or X-Men movies to be hitting the big screen until 2021. However, this doesn't mean a character like Wolverine, or Dr. Doom, or Galactus won't show up earlier in another MCU film.

Sure, this is just an estimate (read as: just a guess with no confirmation on any of this timeline stuff), but do the math... the Disney / Fox deal won't be done until 2019, at the earliest, 2020 at the latest. In the earliest scenario, movie development can't really get going for any X-Men of Fantastic Four film until the deal is done so it would not start until 2019; with filming starting in 2020 for a potential 2021 release date. If the deal between Disney and Fox isn't completed until 2020, then don't expect any Fantastic Four or X-Men movies until 2022, at the earliest.

Patience Marvel fans. The deal in being worked out right now, and once finalized you can figure to see the first MCU X-Men movie or Fantastic Four film about two-ish years after the deal is completed.
