Report: ABC is Not Happy With INHUMANS and Was Mandated to Renew AGENTS OF SHIELD by Disney

ABC and Marvel Television are having some drama as Variety reports the network is not happy with the incoming seasons for the INHUMANS and AGENTS OF SHIELD shows.

AGENTS OF SHIELD was going to get canceled after this past (fourth) season until Disney, who owns ABC and Marvel, stepped in and reportedly "mandated" ABC to renew it for this upcoming season, its fifth. AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 5 will premiere in the coming weeks as soon as the eight-episode-run of INHUMANS ends, by taking over its time slot on Friday nights.

Speaking of INHUMANS, there's already been several reviews of the series' 2-hour pilot episode from its short 2-week IMAX release earlier this month — read our IMAX review here. Most of the reviews are negative-leaning and Marvel TV has done nothing to help reduce the negativity over the past few weeks. This has concerned ABC. Variety writes:

"Network executives expressed concerns early on to Marvel Television, which produces the [INHUMANS] series. Subsequent work by Marvel to fine-tune the visuals did little to allay concerns at the network, where executives felt that the scripts were as problematic as the effects that had been mocked by the Marvel fan community on Twitter after a trailer was released."

INHUMANS grossed $1.5 million during its short theatrical run in IMAX. This performance is assumed to be low because fans did not want to bother spending their money to see it when they could see it on ABC on Friday September 29 with added footage not seen in IMAX screenings.

With the mini-series set to debut tomorrow night, fans everywhere will get their chance to see how good, or how bad, Marvel TV's newest series really is.
