Get to Know the Royal Family in Marvel's INHUMANS

The Inhumans are a special race of humans with superhuman abilities. They first appeared in Fantastic Four No. 45, by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. They Inhumans race made their live action debut in AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 2 and now the Inhumans Royal Family is getting their own show with Marvel's INHUMANS.

The history of the Inhumans started millions of years ago during a war between the alien races the Kree and the Skrull. The Kree, trying to get an advantage in the war, decided to experiment on humans and created the genetically advanced Inhuman race. To activate the powers of an Inhuman, they must be exposed to Terrigen Mist. The Kree decided to abandon their successful solider race because they feared the Inhumans would destroy them. The Inhumans, then, created a separate society from the humans and stayed hidden for years.

Black Bolt and his Royal Family now lead the Inhumans. Black Bolt is the ruler and has the ability to unleash power using his voice. He was exposed to the Terrigen Mist as an embryo and as a result is extremely powerful. Even the slightest whisper can be deadly. Black Bolt spent his childhood learning to control his powers and no longer speaks to keep others safe. He regained control of his powers at the age of 19 and was allowed to rejoin the Inhumans society where he now rules as King.

Maximus is the brother of Black Bolt and desires to be King, even if it means exiling his own brother. Maximus also believes the Inhumans are superior to all other life and wants to rule humans as well. Unfortunately, Maximus has the support of several Inhumans and will do anything to get his way.

Medusa was born into the Royal Family and bred to be queen of the Inhumans. She is the wife of Black Bolt and has hair that seems to have a mind of its own. Her hair has its own personality and will act different in different situations. She can also grow her hair longer and make each strain of hair as hard as steel.

Gorgon is Black Bolt’s cousin and is the leader of the Inhuman military. As a result of the Terrigen Mist, Gorgon grew hooves that can create seismic waves. He is usually loyal to Black Bolt and has even served as his bodyguard. Gorgon teaches his fellow Inhumans to fight and control their powers. He is often one to act before he fully thinks out a scenario.

Lockjaw is a member of the Royal Family and was mutated into a canine after being exposed to the Terrigen Mist. He is loyal to Black Bolt and has the ability to teleport himself and groups of people to other places around or off world. He also has an enhanced sense of smell and tremendous jaw strength.

INHUMANS is set to debut its first two episodes in IMAX on September 1 . The full series will begin airing on September 29 on ABC. This show will be the replacement for Marvel Studios' scratched film and is scheduled to run for eight episodes. The show stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa and Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon.

While the show has been receiving a fair amount of negativity, I hope it will improve from its first episode. If the show turns out to be a disappointment, there are plenty of Marvel Comics that do the Royal Family justice.
