AQUAMAN Screenwriter Says it, and JUSTICE LEAGUE, Will be More Fun Than Previous DCEU Films

Full disclosure: I am so looking forward to seeing actor Jason Momoa as Aquaman in his own solo movie and in JUSTICE LEAGUE just as much as I'm excited to see Gal Gadot reprise Diana Prince in the big ensemble movie as well as her WONDER WOMAN solo film this summer. So hearing screenwriter Will Beall say how both JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN will be fun movies does excite me for the future. However, Beall is also the one who initially wrote a draft of the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie which was totally scrapped, so I am a little bit reserved in my excitement at the same time.

Which brings us to today's news of Beall speaking with Collider about the tonal shift in the DC Extended Universe which is coming in for both JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN.

“I think Justice League again is, what you’re going to see — I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for saying this — but it’s much more fun, much poppier, than … I haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet, but Batman vs Superman was a little more somber. But Justice League is a lot more fun. And I think that feels to me like the direction those movies are heading now.
“[AQUAMAN is] going to be fun, it’s going to be really fun. What we’ve come up with and [director] James [Wan] especially, he has a really clear idea of the tone he’s going to have, and I think Aquaman is one that’s going to blow people’s minds. Not just visually, but I think the story and the scope of it is really great.”

Many DC fans liked the darker, somber approach to BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and they may not want a more fun and "poppier" JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. But the issue remains how BATMAN V. SUPERMAN did not meet its large box office expectations when it failed to clear the $1 billion barrier in the worldwide box office. And it not clearing $900 million worldwide hurt it too which is probably why it is assumed that Warner Bros. scrapped Beall's potentially darker and more somber script draft for JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Regardless, I personally can't wait to see a more badass, and fun, Aquaman on the big screen. Fingers crossed seeing as how all fans hear anymore is how the upcoming DCEU movies will all be more fun than MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and SUICIDE SQUAD.

JUSTICE LEAGUE releases on November 17. AQUAMAN opens on October 5, 2018.
