ROGUE ONE: Here's Why the Outfit of Jyn's Mother Looked so Familiar

***THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY.***

Now that ROGUE ONE is out in theaters, it's time to learn more about the film. Today, we here at DailySuperHero.com just received our copy of the book THE ART OF ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY in the mail. And you can buy yourself a copy, or ask for it as a last minute holiday gift, by clicking right here.

If you're a fan of Star Wars artwork, then this is most definitely a book for you.

Upon reading the Chapter titled 'Home is Where the Hero Is' a little piece of information was revealed about Jyn Erso's mother, Lrya. You only see her in the prologue of the movie but you may have noticed her wardrobe had a distinct look. It looked very similar to the attire worn by the Jedi and according to the following passage transcribed from the art book, she was in fact a Jedi in hiding in early versions of the ROGUE ONE script.

"In early iterations of the script, Jyn was given a family history — a Jedi mother in hiding from the Empire, a young brother she had to protect  and a father, introduced as Galen, who had been the Imperial engineer responsible for designing and developing a key component of the Death Star's super weapon." [Pages 36, 38]

So this is really why she has a Kyber crystal and gives it to her young child, Jyn.

Now we have to wonder how that early script story unfolded because there might have been a point in it where Jyn discovers she has the Force within. This might be true when you check out the following image of the Star Wars Black Series 6-inch Kmart exclusive figure of Jyn with what appears to be a lightsaber accessory.

Of course we are assuming this is a hilt and it could have been Lyra's Jedi weapon which was handed down to Jyn in an early script, too. Toys are approved, designed and manufactured way before a movie is completed. So this potential lightsaber hilt accessory could have been in the movie prior to reshoots and then it was cut out of the film completely.

UPDATE: Well, we got to the end of the ROGUE ONE art book and the very last page revealed the lightsaber-looking accessory is most likely a smoke flare as seen in the below concept art photo of Jyn we took straight from the book.
