Star Wars Speculation: Darth Vader Could be a Standalone Movie Box Office Draw Moving Forward

Editorial: Darth Vader in ROGUE ONE is fantastic and his moment at the end of the movie is one of the best scenes in any previous Star Wars movie. Vader is back and his possible inclusion, albeit in minimal ways, in future standalone Star Wars movies seems imminent.

In a story over on The Hollywood Reporter, based on rumored information from their sources, they are speculating there might be a young Luke Skywalker standalone Star Wars movie in the works at Lucasfilm.

Here's what THR writes:

"...speculation surrounding perhaps a young Luke Skywalker stand-alone in the future."

This would be interesting because would show that Lucasfilm and Disney are really looking at filling in the gaps between STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH and STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE with the standalone films.

We here at DailySuperHero.com will assume it is not only due to the wanting to include stories about the franchise's more popular heroes, but as a way to include cinema's most popular villain Darth Vader into the Disney-owned Star Wars films.

There is already a HAN SOLO standalone Star Wars film set to begin filming in early 2017 starring Alden Ehrenreich as the young smuggler as well as Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrisson, plus the story will show how Chewbacca and Han met. This happens before ROGUE ONE and A NEW HOPE and within the Star Wars timeline which means Vader's presence in the galaxy is very relevant. So you have to assume the Sith Lord could have a limited appearance in HAN SOLO as he has in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY.

Obviously, a young Luke Skywalker movie will take place in the same timeline between Episodes III and IV. And this could be a way for Lucasfilm to get actor Ewan McGregor into a standalone Star Wars movie as Obi-Wan Kenobi, too, along with having a minimal role for Darth Vader.

Sure, this is a lot of speculation on our part but if THR's rumor of a young Luke Skywalker movie is true then it seems apparent Lucasfilm and Disney are focused on telling standalone stories between Episodes III and IV so they can use Darth Vader.

Bottom line: Vader is a box office draw, no matter how little he is in a movie, which equals box office cash. And every fan wants more Vader, it's not a secret.
