Sequel Imminent: DOCTOR STRANGE Moves Past ANT-MAN in Worldwide Box Office Gross With $571 Million

DOCTOR STRANGE should easily get a sequel. This may not (yet) be confirmed by Marvel Studios, as of the publishing of this post, but actor Benedict Cumberbatch's turn as a super hero has already surpassed the worldwide total of ANT-MAN ($519 million) which got a sequel, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP.

It may have not maintained its top spot in the domestic box office this weekend — due to another magical franchise tentpole about fantastic beasts and where you can find them being launched — but DOCTOR STRANGE still came in second place and brought in an estimated $17 million. It has made $181M, domestically, placing it right behind the $206M THOR: THE DARK WORLD made. Surpassing the Thor sequel seems inevitable before the film finishes its theatrical run.

Overseas, DOCTOR STRANGE took in an estimated $26M bringing its International total to $390M.

Worldwide, DOCTOR STRANGE has amassed over $571M placing it right behind the worldwide total IRON MAN took in in 2008, which is $585M.

So yeah... if ANT-MAN can get a sequel and DOCTOR STRANGE has now made more than it, then DOCTOR STRANGE 2 is going to happen.

[All weekend box office numbers are estimates until actuals are revealed on Monday and all other numbers are sourced from BoxOfficeMojo.]
