DOCTOR STRANGE Has Another Strong Weekend as it Closes in on $500 Million Worldwide

During a week in the U.S. where escapism was most definitely needed, people flocked to theaters and Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE was their top target.

Domestically, DOCTOR STRANGE brought in an estimated $43 million bringing its domestic tally to $153M. This brings Marvel Studios' 14th film within $23M of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER ($176M), within $27M of ANT-MAN ($180M) and within $28M of THOR ($181M). Dr. Stephen Strange's origin film should easily surpass all three of these Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films by the end of next weekend.

Overseas, the film took in approximately $60M bringing its International total to $339M.

Worldwide, DOCTOR STRANGE has made nearly $500M — $492M to be exact — which puts it ahead of the worldwide totals for THE INCREDIBLE HULK ($263M), CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER ($370M), and THOR ($449M). The good Doctor is within striking distance of the $519M ANT-MAN made worldwide, but it still needs just under $100M to eclipse the $585M made by IRON MAN in 2008.

All-in-all, it's safe to say DOCTOR STRANGE is here to stay and he is the next big tentpole solo franchise in the MCU. A sequel announcement is inevitable at some point in the future.
