THOR: RAGNAROK Director Does Some Teasing and Says There's Influence From 70s and 80s Sci-Fi Fantasy Movies

Director Taika Waititi has a very unique creative vision and humor when it comes to his film work, this is also known as auteur theory. This is one of the big reasons Marvel Studios choose him to helm THOR: RAGNAROK because the solo franchise needed some added flavor and auteur theory from a director after the somewhat mediocre, albeit profitable, reception of THOR and THOR: THE DARK WORLD movies.

Waititi held an AMA (Ask Me Anything) over on Reddit last night, which io9 mined through for the most important information, and revealed an interesting comparison about next year's Thor film. io9 writes:

"During the AMA, Waititi was asked about the 1980s-style logo, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con. He said the new logo was inspired by 1970s and 1980s sci fi fantasy art, 'because our film feels like that.' Waititi also confirmed that audiences can expect a 1980s vibe from the film, 'and more.'
"'I think [Thor: Ragnarok] will be one of the most adventurous and most ‘out there’ of all the Marvel movies. It’s a crazy movie,' Waititi said."

The director also said Marvel Studios has been very open to his vision, style and ideas to bring into the film by giving him a lot of creative freedom. It sounds like this could have been a big reason why Waititi took the job.

Finally, Waititi mentioned how he feels like actor Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and the Hulk will be the breakout star of this movie and teased "references" to DOCTOR STRANGE but nothing more than that.

THOR: RAGNAROK is filming in Australia for approximately three more weeks, per Waititit, and releases on November 3, 2017.
