GAMBIT Loses its Director Again as Doug Liman Will Helm a Live Action JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie Instead

Fans of Gambit will not be happy today as 20th Century Fox has hit yet another snag in getting a solo GAMBIT movie off the ground. It was supposed to start filming in fall 2015 but an inflated budget meant rewrites and that delay caused director Rupert Wyatt to leave the Channing Tatum-led movie. In November 2015, Fox brought director Doug Liman in to helm the project but now has lost its second director as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Liman has left GAMBIT for a Warner Bros. super hero movie instead.

Liman will helm a live action version of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, which consists of a team of supernatural heroes and is the latest expansion of the studios' DC Extended Universe. This supernatural ensemble team live action movie was originally developed by Guillermo del Toro, who is no longer involved with the film.

This leaves GAMBIT without a director once again and Fox continues to have issues with this project. This latest delay could cause Tatum to leave the title role as well because his schedule can't be put on hold for this role forever. Sure he's still attached right now, but Fox was hoping to begin filming GAMBIT in early 2017 and this now seems unlikely unless a new director can be found asap.
