Donald Glover Cast in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and Here's Some Wild Guesses as to Who He Might Be

Two days ago The Hollywood Reporter put out a scoop that actor and musician Donald Glover, also known as the rapper Childish Gambino, is joining the cast of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. The former 30 Rock writer and Community star will play an undisclosed role as of the publishing of this post. This is cool because there was a big fan campaign to cast Glover in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN before Andrew Garfield was cast as Peter Parker.

Who Glover might be in the movie remains to be seen and the easy guess is that he could be an older and adapted version Miles Morales' Spider-Man from the comics. However, it would make no sense for Sony and Marvel Studios to cast another Spidey in the first solo movie featuring a brand new actor in the role. Tom Holland has already been introduced as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in this summer's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and if Glover is another Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it could cause mass confusion to the general audience and for those who do not read comics.

So the question is posed as to who Glover might be and we have a few (wild) guesses.

First, Glover could be a J. Jonah Jameson. With J.K. Simmons moving on to be Commissioner Gordon in the DC Extended Universe's JUSTICE LEAGUE, the role is wide open and a move to make Jameson younger as well as more diverse would be an intriguing twist.

Second, he could be the Vulture. Sure, Michael Keaton is rumored to be the Vulture but this is just rumor right now and having a younger Vulture would make sense seeing as how he has to keep up with the much younger Holland on the big screen. Keaton could then be the other rumored villain in the film the Tinkereer, who allegeldy will construct the Vulture's villainous suit.

The next guess would be a flip-flop of the last one. With Glover being the Tinkerer and Keaton as the Vulture.

Finally, Glover might just have a random appearance in the film and not a prominent role. Although in this scenario is would be a shame to not let his comedic wit and charm go to waste in a smaller role.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING begins filming in the coming weeks at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta and releases on July 7, 2017.
