Bryan Singer Confirms X-FORCE is in Active Development and He Pitched Fox on X-23

Over the past few days, due to the press tour for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, there's been some new hints and talk of the stuck-in-development-purgatory X-FORCE movie. Development for this movie began in 2013 with writer/director Jeff Wadlow penning a script. But the villain in those pages was Apocalypse. When Apocalypse became the main villain of the next X-Men movie, development for X-FORCE was put on hold indefinitely.

Once DEADPOOL became a huge hit, actor Ryan Reynolds said how he would love to get Deadpool into an eventual X-FORCE ensemble movie and it is a big priority. And just as recently as this week producer Simon Kinberg has said that he would like a hopeful X-FORCE movie to be rated-R.

Now, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE director Bryan Singer has confirmed to Fandango that X-FORCE is not only back to being in active development, but Kinberg is working on its script.

"Simon [Kinberg] is in the earliest script stage, so that’s kind of where that stands, and we’ll see how it evolves."

Singer did not disclose whether or not Kinberg is using some of Wadlow's old X-FORCE script ideas or if he went back to a stack of blank page. But Singer did say that he did pitch to Fox the idea of bringing in the female Wolverine, Laura Kinney a.k.a. X-23, from the comics.

"I have discussed that with the studio. I actually initially pitched the X-Force and 'the female.'"

"The female" being hinted at is obviously X-23, who has been the topic of a recent rumors of possibly being in WOLVERINE 3. She doesn't age, just like Wolverine, so her being in this future timeline movie does not matter because she can show up in any of Fox's X-Men movie timelines and look the exact same age, just as Logan has been able to do.

There's lots to speculate on here but it seems more-than-obvious that Fox's plan post-Hugh Jackman leaving the role of Logan is to bring in the female version of Wolverine from the comics.
