Sounds Like Zack Snyder Just Created Another BATMAN V. SUPERMAN Plot Hole By Addressing Another One

***This post contains SPOILERS for BATMAN V. SUPERMAN.***

Editorial: Many critics have torn into director Zack Snyder's first two DC Extended Universe movies, MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. And rightfully so when it comes to story issues and plot holes, but if there is one thing you can't tear down it's for Snyder's visual style. There are few directors who have a better visual style than Snyder, so give the man props where props are due.

However, there's been plenty of issues with his story work and BATMAN V. SUPERMAN had its fault. But what doesn't helps matters is when Snyder tries to explain a plot hole and then creates a brand new one at the same time.

This happened when he spoke with IGN about why Superman could not hear the screams of his mother, Martha Kent, when she was kidnapped by Lex Luthor's goons.

“I think all the way – to me, from Metropolis to Smallville is probably just on the edge of his range of hearing. Also the clutter of the city makes it difficult as well.
"We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her. It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.
“I kind of like the idea that he’s taught himself not to look because if he looks it’s just neverending, right? You have to know when, as Superman, when to intervene and when not to. Or not when not to, you can’t be everywhere at once, literally you can’t be everywhere at once, so he has to be really selective in a weird way about where he chooses to interfere.”

So what he is saying is that due to all the commotion that takes place in Metropolis, he couldn't hear his mother's cries for help. And his range is limited to where Smallville is just beyond his super-hearing range.

Sorry but this is a bogus excuse because if Superman's hearing was that limited, then how did he hear Lois Lane was in trouble in Africa at the start of the movie? Africa is most definitely farther from the fictional Metropolis than Smallville is. Here in lies the creation of another plot hole by Snyder. (Unless, as noted by reader @JK_McCoy, Superman was told by Lois that she would be in Africa and he was nearby in case trouble went down, but if so, then Snyder needs to address this plot hole, too.)

If Superman is to be selective with this super-hearing there are two people who would definitely get Superman's attention in times of need/peril and it would be Lois and his mother. But he was still able to hear Lois in trouble across the ocean but he couldn't hear his mother being kidnapped?

Just stop talking Snyder. It's best if he leaves these questions unanswered otherwise he might continue to create more plot holes as he has done here. And it's hard to not come down on him when it happens.
