Marvel Studios Has Creative Control of SPIDER-MAN and Tom Holland Says You'll See How a Kid Would React

No offense to actors Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield who have previously played Peter Parker and Spider-Man on the big screen, but they never really nailed the kid-as-a-super-hero feeling you should have felt when watching their respective performances. But when Sony Pictures partnered up with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the creative decisions were put into the hands of the experts, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and his brain trust.

In an interview with YouTube Channel HeyUGuys, Feige confirmed that he and his team are indeed in creative control for Spider-Man in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR as well as for next year's SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. Sony is not, even though they hold the live action movie rights to all-things Spidey as well as are the ones paying for the production of Spidey's first MCU film. (Smart move Sony!)

"Well, I've known... Amy Pascal... Tom Rothman, who runs Sony now, I've known for years, so it's been great, and they really are supportive in allowing us to make the creative decisions to make that movie, but they've been great partners and... so far so good on that movie," Feige disclosed.

Holland, while also speaking with HeyUGuys, confirmed that his version of the Wall Crawler will definitely act like a kid. Which is refreshing since Holland is much younger when casted in the role last year, 18, than Maguire (25) or Garfield (26) were when they were cast as Spidey.

"It was very difficult to not obviously copy what Andrew and Tobey had done because because what they did was so brilliant. I think our main difference is trying to make Peter feel like a kid and in the film you see a kid reacting to meeting the Avengers for the first time," Holland continued. "I think that's one of the things people love about these films is seeing real life occurrences happen in these crazy films and that's exactly what happens to Peter in his house."

Spider-Man makes his MCU debut in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, on May 6, and then will headline his first MCU solo movie, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, which starts filming this summer and releases on July 7, 2017.
