DAREDEVIL Actor Charlie Cox Has Confirmed THE DEFENDERS Starts Filming the End of 2016 and No Word on Season 3
Last month Netflix and Marvel's DAREDEVIL Season 2 debuted and the two companies have been busy filming LUKE CAGE for its September 30 premiere on the streaming service as well as casting for IRON FIST which begins filming in the coming months.
DAREDEVIL actor Charlie Cox has now confirmed (via The Independent) that the epic ensemble team-up series THE DEFENDERS, which will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team-up, will begin filming toward the end of 2016.
"What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.
Cox, then, said he's not sure if DAREDEVIL will get a Season 3 or if any storylines from the end of Season 2 will be addressed in THE DEFENDERS.
"We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three... In terms of wrapping up any [Daredevil] storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”
So what we have here is a clarification of the possible release time frame for IRON FIST and THE DEFENDERS. IRON FIST is looking like it will have a projected debut in spring 2017 and THE DEFENDERS will probably premiere in fall 2017. This now creates a mystery as to when JESSICA JONES Season 2 will hit Netflix and it seems like her next season might not premiere until spring of 2018 after THE DEFENDERS ensemble series.
Unless Marvel TV and Netflix decide to move forward with three series releases per year. If Marvel and Netflix can manage a production schedule of this many series releases each year it would make fans of these shows very, very happy.
