Marvel Does Right by its Fans and Releases 2 New CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR TV Spots Without New Footage
Fans are hoping Marvel Studios has learned a valuable lesson from their marketing for last summer's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. This is mainly due to the studio revealing way too much footage in their trailers, teasers and television spots for the ensemble sequel. More specifically, nearly the entire Hulkbuster versus Hulk fight.
Since Age of Ultron released, Marvel Studios has seen fellow Disney-owned studio Lucasfilm perfect the less-is-more approach when it comes to footage reveals. Hardly any new footage could be seen for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS in its limited number of TV spots until some were sprinkled in the week of its release.
This needs to be the new approach by Disney owned studios. Star Wars showed just enough to get you excited leading up to release and mostly remixed the teaser and trailer footage into the much shorter TV spots.
Now, Marvel Studios is beginning their marketing campaign for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and the first two TV spots show only what has already been revealed in its trailer and teaser. This is a great sign of studios recognizing that the biggest blockbuster films with pre-existing characters who the general audience is already familiar with are leaving the best surprises, fights and reveals for your theater seat on opening night. In theory at least.
The next step in all of this is to watch and see if the marketing campaign for Civil War has scrapped the prior concept of releasing lots of movie clips in the weeks before a movie opens. These should be saved for after the film is out and, matter of fact, ANT-MAN didn't release as many as in the past beforehand.
It's nice for when a studio doesn't need to pander to audiences anymore because the fan base has already been built up to the point that's an afterthought.
Anyway, here's the new new Civil War TV spots...
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR releases on May 6.
