ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Adam McKay Confirms Involvement But Not His Role

By now you should know the story of how ANT-MAN replaced its director and went back into re-writes which delayed its originally planned production start date by a few months in summer 2014. During re-writes, Paul Rudd and writer/director Adam McKay locked themselves in a room for a couple of weeks and came out of that seclusion with the script fans flocked to theaters see to the tune of $519 million in the worldwide box office.

ANT-MAN was made on Marvel Studios' lowest budget, $130 million, of any of their feature movies and was a refreshing jolt of fun and funny for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A sequel seemed possible but it wasn't certain until Marvel green lit it about two months after release.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is in the early stages of development and McKay has confirmed to Nerdist News that he will once again be involved in the film.

“We’ve been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a little headline for the fanboys!”

How McKay will be a part of the sequel is unknown. He could come in to help Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari and Paul Rudd write the script or he could come in for some re-writes prior to filming beginning.

Or maybe, here's some speculation, he could direct it seeing as how ANT-MAN director Peyton Reed is only rumored to possibly be returning to the helm but it has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios or any of the Hollywood trade websites. In the past, McKay has said that he and Marvel have talked about him directed a future film and perhaps its this sequel. However, Reed has said he would love to return so it would seem logical to give him first dibs if he wants to return and direct.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP and it releases on July 6, 2018.
