Netflix Must Love the Punisher in DAREDEVIL Season 2 So Much That a Spin-Off Series is Reportedly Close to Being Greenlit
This shouldn't come as a surprise to any Marvel fan, especially since the Punisher is a fan favorite. According to TVLine, Netflix is very close to green-lighting a spin-off series for THE PUNISHER.
Apparently Netflix and Marvel TV executives are so happy with actor Jon Bernthal's performance as Frank Castle in DAREDEVIL Season 2 that he will get his own show.
"[Bernthal's] Punisher is extraordinarily memorable, in every way," Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb told ComicBook.com last weekend.
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people to second-guess themselves,” DAREDEVIL executive producer Doug Petrie recently told EW.com.
This isn't the first time the possibility for THE PUNISHER spin-off has been mentioned. Back in July 2015, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos teased that Bernthal could get his own Punisher series.
“It is possible for sure," Sarandos said regarding the Punisher getting his own series to IGN. "That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe."
As of right now, it sounds like THE PUNISHER will likely get a spin-off series on Netflix before JESSICA JONES gets a Season 2.
