Fox's HELLFIRE Television Series Development Slowed After Losing its Showrunners and Writers

Fox just slowed the progress one of its own shows by green-lighting a reboot of a series franchise which has caused its showrunners for another show to leave for the newly greenlit one. Since Fox has newly greenlit a 24: Legacy show, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunners for their previously greenlit super hero series HELLFIRE have left it for the new series.

In case you didn't know, Fox greenlit HELLFIRE after receiving permission and support from Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb to make the X-Men spin-off television series back in October 2015.

The trade website reports this news as follows:

"Writers [and showrunners] Evan Katz and Manny Coto, who co-created the drama, are exiting [Hellfire], The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Also out are Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, who came up the the story for the drama alongside Katz and Coto and were set to pen the script. A search is under way for a new writer.
"The changes come as Hellfire is on a slower development track, insiders say. Hellfire, which previously was considered a live-action X-Men, follows a young special agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires — known as 'The Hellfire Club' — to take over the world.
"Sources say the X-Men drama is not likely to go to pilot this season as it remains on a slower track. The change comes as Katz and Coto are shifting their focus to Fox's 24: Legacy, which received a formal pilot order Friday..."

Sounds like there's a slim chance that HELLFIRE could premiere around this time next year but don't hold your breath on that becoming a reality. Especially if the new showrunner(s) and writer(s) don't like the existing treatment and/or outline for the show and start over from scratch. However, Fox is still committed to HELLFIRE.

"Sources say Fox remains committed to Hellfire and wants to get it completely right as the X-Men franchise remains a valuable asset for the company."
