Editorial: I don't often write about the comic book universe here on The Daily SuperHero since my main focus is movies, but sometimes there is an exception. This is one of those exceptions.
Is this much ado about nothing or just some classic old fashioned Marvel comics cliffhanger ploy? If you have not read Star Wars Issue No. 6, that just hit comic book stores yesterday, and you don't know what I'm talking about... here is your SPOILER ALERT.
Unless you've been intentionally avoiding this comic book spoiler because you haven't had time to read Issue No. 6 due to work, family, time or whatever; you know what happened.
In the last pages, it was revealed Han Solo has a wife. While the Internet nearly exploded with anger at this I need to remind everyone how a comic book story layout works. By the way — since the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm and the removal of the Expanded Universe from official Star Wars story canon — all Star Wars content is controlled by the Lucasfilm Story Group so all movies, TV, novels and comics are official canon and tell stories which are all part of the same timeline moving forward. (Click here for confirmation, if you don't believe me).
When you're in the middle of a story and the issue is at its end, you leave a cliffhanger. In fact, it is known that comic publishers love a cliffhanger on nearly every page to it engage a reader so a reader is willing to turn the page to continue reading the issue.
Sometimes at the end of an issue a cliffhanger will be deployed in order to create a buzz for the story and to get readers to buy the next issue. It's kind of like a built-in sales tactic and some of the most successful comic book creators abide by this.
Anyway, back to this Han Solo reveal. This is classic Marvel and they are known to do this over and over again which continues to create fan outcry every time they do it. Sometimes things go one way in the next issue and fans hate it, but most times it's a falsehood that is created and everyone made a big deal for nothing.
I think the latter will happen and this woman will be a crazy groupie or an old ex-wife who still can't let go and is stalking the fan-favorite scoundrel. There is a small probability she will be his current wife but this would blow up Star Wars canon too much to be believable that Han was flirting and kissing Leia in the Original Trilogy while still married to another woman.
That is not a very Disney way of doing things for the family-friendly entertainment company.
We will see when the next issue comes out.
