AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON "Will Almost Surely" Exceed THE AVENGERS' Worldwide Total in the Long Run

During its opening weekend in the U.S., AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON fell short of breaking the 3-day opening record of $207 million, by its predecessor. Some fans were angered and others confused how the sequel couldn't top THE AVENGERS' record but the reality is its $191 million haul over 3-days was the second best opening of all-time and quite a spectacular performance.

Overseas, Age of Ultron is actually performing better than the first film and the recent increase in International box office moviegoers the past few years should/could propel Age of Ultron over THE AVENGERS in worldwide box office totals when its theatrical run ends. This is according to a new box office report by TheWrap.

The Hollywood trade website is reporting how AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON "will almost surely top the worldwide grosses of the original in the long run."

“Comparisons are unfair because ‘The Avengers’ was a unique situation, but overseas is going to make up for any dip domestically because of the substantial growth in the foreign market since 2012, especially in China,” BoxOffice.com senior analyst Phil Contrino said, via TheWrap. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” will open there on Tuesday."

As of right now, after being released Internationally over two weeks ago, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON has taken in over $478 million compared to THE AVENGERS' International total of $425 million during its first two weeks of release overseas.

In other words, those who think the $1.5 billion THE AVENGERS made in the box office was out of reach for the sequel might be wrong. International box office sales are performing better than ever before in the history of the movie industry and this could make up for any and all domestic box office decreases.
