Anyway, in February 2014 one of my insiders told me how one of many MacGuffins being considered for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was a trident (click here to read that post). This wasn't the first time a trident was reported for this film because several months earlier Daily Mail reported about the possibility of a trident in the movie. But then there were no further reports about it until mine was published further corroborating the initial report. Most websites ignored my follow-up report but today I am happy to say that it has been confirmed!
According to the official press release of the synopsis of the new movie, it clearly states that Poseidon's Trident is the MacGuffin of the movie. Here's the release with the synopsis italicized:
QUEENSLAND, Australia (February 17, 2015)– Production has commenced on location in Australia on Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ epic comedy adventure “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki”), the fifth entry in the blockbuster franchise inspired by the classic Disney Theme Parks attraction, which has reaped $3.7 billion in worldwide box office. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will film entirely at Village Roadshow Studios and on locations within Queensland, Australia.
