In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Chris Evans & Frank Grillo Literally Beat Each Other Up in the Elevator Scene

One of the most memorable fight scenes in any Marvel Studios film has got to be the scene which is in one of the smallest spaces to actually fight in. That elevator fight in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was brutal and entertaining.

While filming that scene, actors Chris Evans and Frank Grillo were hitting each other during the six days it took to film the sequence. Grillo detailed this scene in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"There were a couple times in that elevator scene where [Chris Evans] said, ‘Dude, you’re hitting me.' I go, ‘We are in an elevator. My stunt guy's not coming in here. They won’t be able to shoot your face. We gotta do this.’ And we just start punching each other.
"We did that scene for six days. We were literally covered in black and blues. That’s why I love [Evans]."

Usually, especially in fight scenes, there is enough space to bring in a stunt man who can take most of the punches but when you're in a small elevator, the actual actors needed to be in the middle of most of the action. Despite the bruises, this scene is fantastically choreographed, action-packed and worth watching over and over again.
