Talking to Myself About Why You Should be More Excited For AGENT CARTER Than You Were For AGENTS OF SHIELD

I need to vent about something that I've been holding onto for a while now. It's regarding Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD.

So let me talk to myself about this gut feeling I've been having the past few months.

So what did you want to talk about today?

I'd like to discuss a gut feeling I've been having about ABC's new Marvel television series Agent Carter.

Sure. It looks pretty damn good doesn't it?

Yes. Yes it does and this is what I want to talk about... how good this new series looks and why you should be more excited about Agent Carter than you were for Agents of SHIELD.

Oh c'mon now... how can you say that about Phil Coulson and his team?

Hey, I'm not talking bad about Coulson (big fan actually) and his team because the show has gotten much better since it began its connective story to Captain America: The Winter Soldier with the rise of Hydra and fall of SHIELD. Even this second season has been much better than how its first season started.

So you weren't excited about Agents of SHIELD before it premiered in fall 2013?

See that's the problem, I was too excited because I was eagerly anticipating Coulson's story since his "death" in The Avengers. I wanted to know more about it (as did every other fan) and when Agents of SHIELD started, it started so slow with his story line that fans still have lingering questions about what the heck is up with Coulson.

You're right. It's still a lingering question that has not been answered even into its second season.

And it's starting to annoy me because it has been nearly 30 episodes of Agents of SHIELD and you still don't know what the heck is up with Coulson. It's a story line that needs to be resolved sooner than later. But I'll say that I do enjoy Agents of SHIELD but now I'm more excited about Agent Carter than I was ever for Agents of SHIELD.

Be careful because that sounds like you're setting yourself up for another possible disappointment if Agent Carter isn't good.

That's the thing though, I think Agent Carter will be even better than Agents of SHIELD for a few simple reasons.

What are those?

First, Agent Carter involves already established characters Marvel fans know, love and care about in Peggy Carter and Howard Stark.

Same could be said about Phil Coulson in Agents of SHIELD.

True but let me get to my next point. Agent Carter also has half of its 8-episode series directed by solid directors. The first episode is directed by Marvel executive Louis D'Esposito, who directed the fantastic Agent Carter One-Shot short film. The second and third episodes are being directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors, the Russo brothers. For the fourth episode, it has been reported that Joe Johnston, who directed Captain America: The First Avenger, is interested in directing.

Wow! That's some directing star power right there.

Exactly. And when you bring in big time directors for Agent Carter, I believe that is a reason to be very excited for this new Marvel TV series. Plus, the fact it's a period piece series set in the mid-40s and this should be an interesting time period to see how things were set up for the future of SHIELD and how things relate and evolved into the modern day Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As Marvel says, "It's all connected."

Yup! Now you know why I think fans should be very, very excited for Agent Carter, so on that note, I digress.

Agent Carter airs on ABC on Tuesdays in January 2015.
