BLACK WIDOW Movie? Nope. Prequel? Hinted but Nope. Marvel is Moving Forward With Her Current Story Line

Black Widow is a dark and intriguing character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She's a hero but with a mysterious background. Marvel have yet to explore the "red in her ledger" that was teased in The Avengers. While her fan base have been screaming for a solo movie — or team-up movie with Hawkeye — Phase 3 is not getting one.

While dropping the word 'prequel' in an interview with Newsarama.com, after the Marvel Event in L.A. today, studio head Kevin Feige talked briefly about Black Widow.

"Black Widow couldn't be more important as an Avenger, but like Hulk the Avengers films will be the films where they play a primary role. [Her role] is very, very big and further develops her character. The plans we have for her through the rest of the Avengers saga are very big and she is a linchpin. So instead of taking her out there or doing a prequel which we haven’t done yet, we’re continuing the forward momentum of the continuity of the Cinematic Universe, of which Widow is a key part."

Feige makes it sound like a Black Widow prequel story may or may not have been explored recently. But what is more shocking about his comment is that it sounds like a prequel movie could eventually come and Marvel is looking (or already looked at) at its possibilities for a future film. Makes sense since Marvel Studios reportedly have their movie timeline set through the year 2616.
