AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON: Chris Evans Teases Where CAPTAIN AMERICA is in His Adjustment to Modern Life

One of the many ongoing story lines spanning across multiple Marvel Studios films is that of Steve Rogers. Since being thawed out in modern day, Rogers has had a huge adjustment period learning about decades of history that he missed while taking his cold nap.

In The Avengers, Cap is just looking to serve and when Nick Fury comes knocking to form the team it's an obvious match for Cap who needs structure and a chain of command present in his life. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Cap is learning about the Internet and pop culture.

Obviously Rogers is becoming more and more acclimated to modern day, but what about this story progression in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Actor Chris Evans hints at it when he spoke with BuzzFeed.

"He’s still looking for a home, probably a metaphorical home. He’s always felt comfortable as a soldier. And he likes structure. He works well taking orders. But when that dynamic turned on him, he’s now left to depend upon his team, the Avengers. There really is no one above them telling them what to do. They’re kind of having to operate independently. So there’s a lot of leaning on one another, but there really isn’t a kind of clear chain of command. And I think Cap looks for that. I think he’s looking to understand where he belongs, not just as a soldier, as Captain America, but as Steve Rogers, as a person.”

There's somewhat of a sense in Evans' quote, and a little reading between the lines, that implies Rogers still hasn't learned to be a true leader like Captain America is widely seen as in the comic book universe and animated series. His leadership was teased in The Avengers when he was issuing commands during the Battle of New York but hasn't developed further... yet.

Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in theaters on May 1, 2015.
