GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Becomes Marvel Studios' No. 3 Domestic Movie of All-Time

In its ninth weekend in the domestic box office, Guardians of the Galaxy is still making headlines. This weekend James Gunn's film has officially surpassed the domestic box office total of Iron Man. This means Guardians of the Galaxy ($319.2 million) is now Marvel Studios' No. 3 performing domestic film in the box office behind The Avengers ($623.2M) and Iron Man 3 ($409M).

Let that sink in a bit. Guardians of the Galaxy has bigger box office numbers in the U.S. than Iron Man ($318.4M), Iron Man 2 ($312.4M), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($259.7M), Thor: The Dark World ($206.3M), Thor ($181M), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176.6M) and Incredible Hulk ($134.8M).

All of this from an unknown movie property that had critics, and many others, saying it would be Marvel Studios' first big flop when it was announced at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International. Oh yeah, one more thing... all of this has also led to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 releasing in theaters on July 28, 2017.

Let that sink in a bit more.
