Mark Ruffalo Says Bruce Banner is Still Working on Controlling HULK in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

"That's my secret Captain, I'm always angry."

An instantly classic quote by actor  Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner moments before turning into the Hulk during the beginning stages of the Battle of New York, in The Avengers. It was a moment that should have sent shivers down every spine in the theater.

Banner revealed he indeed has fantastic control of the green monster after Hulking out in the Helicarrier, fighting Thor and viciously attacking a jet. Seems like he got a handle on things by the end of the film but apparently Banner is still working on controlling the monster inside.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, about Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ruffalo revealed Banner's internal battle with the Hulk is still ongoing and that Banner might not be in a place where he's really in control. According to Ruffalo, Banner still very vulnerable when he's not the Hulk.

"Mark Ruffalo has his fingers in his ears, trying desperately not to Hulk out as Scarlett Johansson fires a pistol at a robotic menace that is shooting up the bar where they’re hiding.
“'He’s trying not to Hulk out,' Ruffalo says. 'He knows all the science of his body—what does anger, what does excitement do, physiologically speaking. You can’t have deep breathing and anxiety at one time. So he’s worked on controlling this stuff, he knows what he has to do [and] to do it while it’s going down. I’m just laying in there [behind the bar] because I don’t know how else to be. It’s basically like she said: 'Do not go green.'"

There has to be an internal struggle for Banner and this seems to continue in the Avengers sequel. The real question is: Will Hulk find a way to get out, destroy more things and then he be deemed a threat by his fellow Avengers? Maybe. Fans will have to wait until next year to find out.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently filming in the U.K. and is set to release in theaters on May 1, 2015.
