According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox is now in negotiations with The Wolverine director James Mangold and actor Hugh Jackman to return for a sequel to this summer's hit movie. Mangold is reportedly going to draft a story treatment for the sequel.
Last week, The Wolverine became the No. 2 grossing X-Men movie in Fox's franchise with over $413 million worldwide and $132 million in domestic box office ticket sales. This was on a movie budget of $120 million.
Depending on what happens to the X-Men timeline in next summer's huge blockbuster ensemble film X-Men Days of Future Past, you can bet The Wolverine 2 should pick up where Days of Future Past leaves the newly constructed timeline for the X-franchise moving forward.
Previously, Jackman was not too convincing about his involvement with the X-Men franchise post-Days of Future Past. So this is great news for fans who may have been concerned.
