X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is 'Epic' Per James McAvoy; Will Have Old and New Professor X Crossover Scene

X-Men Days of Future Past is easily the most ambitious Marvel movie 20th Century Fox has ever attempted to make by blending two different X-Men franchise casts together and having two different time lines as well.

Young Professor X actor James McAvoy recently spoke to IGN about next summer's ensemble movie and confirmed that it is Fox's most epic X-Men movie to date.

"There’s an army of brilliant actors in that film. Bryan Singer is back at the helm. Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they’ve ever had. I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they’re definitely going for it."

McAvoy also said that he will have a scene with the other Professor X actor, Patrick Stewart.

"His last day was my first day and that was it. Then we were done. But we did crossover and we do get a scene together."

Now that McAvoy's Charles Xavier is on one side of the mutant war and actor Micahel Fassbender's Magneto is on the other side—see the ending of X-Men: First Class—both actors were not in as many scenes together as they were in First Class. But McAvoy was able to share more scenes with Beast and Wolverine this time around.

"I spent a hell of a lot of time with Nick [Nicholas Hoult]. Weirdly the people that I spent the most time with acting-wise was not Michael this time, it was Hugh [Jackman] and Nick."

Blending two time lines and using time travel as a means to clean up Fox's X-Men movie continuity is a tough task. Hopefully Fox and director Bryan Singer can pull it off because there are plenty of more X-Men stories that need to be told on the big screen (cough, cough Apocalypse cough, cough).

X-Men Days of Future Past releases in theaters on May 23, 2014.
