Rumor: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN's Johnny Depp Might Be Done With Big Budget Roles Outside of Jack Sparrow
Coming right off the heels of new information saying that producer Jerry Bruckheimer is in re-negotiations with Disney to potentially lose his 'final cut' rights and decrease the budget of 2015's Pirates of the Caribbean 5 comes a little rumor about actor Johnny Depp. The Jack Sparrow actor might be done doing new big budget movie roles after The Lone Ranger failed in the box office.
According to one of The Daily SuperHero's Hollywood insiders, the Jack Sparrow actor will continue to play the the pirate captain but beyond that character, he may be done with other really big budget movie roles. Reprising Sparrow is a given and it also helps when Disney is paying Depp a rumored $75 million to come back and play the role in the fifth installment. (Who wouldn't keep coming back to play a role for that kind of cash-money?!)
Another part of this rumored information says that Depp does not want to take part in potentially high-risk projects with huge budgets outside of the highly profitable Pirates franchise. Obviously, this is not per Depp's representatives and this is just a little something-something circulating through the rumor mill right now. Grain of salt? Probably but it could be true after Tonto's adventure fell into the red and Disney has confirmed that they will lose just under $200 million on that film. Quick side note: It was also implied that Tim Burton movies are still an option for the actor regardless of the budget.
Whether you love the Pirates franchise or you're beginning to get tired of it, Disney will continue making movies in this franchise. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides did not do as well as past Pirates films, in the States, but the fourth film did over $800 million in overseas box office sales alone (easily the top overseas Pirates movie performance out of all four so far, too). Internationally, the Pirates franchise is stronger than ever and going no where as long as Depp continues to return the the franchise.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is set to start production in Louisiana and releases in theaters on July 10, 2015.
