THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Director Marc Webb Says Rhino is Only a Minor Villain in the Sequel

The villain lineup in next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has grown to the point where it looks like an over-crowded rogues gallery. Director Marc Webb has cleaned this up a little by giving some clarity on actor Paul Giamatti's Rhino character, also known as Aleksei Sytsevich pre-Rhino.

“I think the main obstacle, the main villain of this film is Electro. He is our primary focus and it’s somebody that has extraordinary, antagonist potential," Webb said to Crave Online. "The other thing is, it was sort of fun to tease out little bits and pieces and have references, for people who are hardcore fans and Rhino, I think, is a better example of that.
“Listen, it’s not the whole storyline. It’s not deeply integrated into the plot. He’s not distracting, I think he’s really elemental and fun to play around with and incredibly justified but it also allows, I think, hardcore fans a chance to see what we do with him, with that character in a way that has enough nuance to feel real but doesn’t distract from the film.”

While Rhino will make an appearance in the Spider-Man sequel, it sounds like Webb is saving the villain for a larger role down the road. And with a third and fourth movie already schedule for release in 2016 and 2018, Rhino's day in the spotlight should be coming soon.
